Upon review of global warming statistics, here are some results; The water temperature was 72 degrees Fahrenheit; 88 degrees Fahrenheit is warm by Miami’s coastal beach standards.
This July was the hottest the world’s oceans been in 130 years!
The average water temperature worldwide was 62.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
The Gulf of Mexico, where warm water strengthens the chance of hurricanes the temperatures have been around 90 degrees. Most of the water in the Northern Hemisphere has been warmer than the average. The Mediterranean has been reported as being 3 degrees warmer than usual. Even higher temperatures rule in the Pacific and Indian oceans. It’s most noticeable near the Artic. There, temperatures are as much as 10 degrees warmer.
Breaking heat records in the water is an obvious sign of global warming compared to breaking heat records on land due to the fact that it takes water longer to heat up and does not cool as easily as land. The warm waters that we’re seeing now aren’t going to disappear next year; in fact they will be around for a very long time. The fact that it takes five times more energy to warm water than land is the reason warmer waters affect weather on land. This is yet another indicator of the changes occurring.
These effects are already being seen in coral reefs. Long-term excessive heat bleaches coral reefs solid white and at times, kills them. Bleaching has started earlier than usual in the Virgin Islands, the keys, and Puerto Rico.
Warm Water is also a required fuel source for hurricanes. Everything that is happening in the oceans now will add extra energy to the hurricanes.
I believe a lot more things are occurring in our oceans and atmospheres than we really know are affecting us.
Please help one another to better our world for our well-being as well as our children’s.
