Banana Seat Bicycles Are Coming Back!

On a less serious and yet somewhat comedic note, I’d just like to say BANANA SEATS ARE COMIN’ BACK! Yes that’s right the bicycle seats that you loved to ride as a kid that allowed more than one passenger will someday, hopefully someday soon will make a comeback. You might ask yourself, “What brought all of this banana seat talk on”.

Well I remembered a close friend who I will refer to as, Banana Billy. One day while going through old bicycles in my grandfather’s garage Banana Billy happened to come across an old banana seat bicycle. Well, Billy being the creatively hilarious dude he was decided to take the bike for a spin around the block. While riding around the block, did I forget to mention it was about 9 O’clock at night, anyway while taking a few spins around the block Banana Billy screamed out “BANANA SEATS ARE COMIN’ BACK!” several times.

After reflecting on this personal memoir, I asked myself, “could banana seat bicycles make a comeback?” As we all know time has a tendency to repeat itself, as we can see in the current clothing trends. But could these bicycle seats that have the similarities of a banana make a realistic comeback in our era? Maybe, but in my opinion the seat would need a certain modern flash added to it.

Popularized in the mid 1960s and well into the 70s, the banana seat was quite the hot seat. While they were originally called Chopper Bicycles, I really don’t think they would have had the same popularized effect had they remained Chopper bikes. The name banana seat just stands out to me.

To many they were very comfortable seats, although there were some picky people that I will not name that claimed that the Huffy bike’s seat was of a higher comfort. But let’s not forget banana seats provided more length and therefore allowed for a bicycle made for two.

Please fill free to leave your opinions on whether you believe Banana Seat Bicycles will return.

Will banana seats make a come back? Only time will tell.
